Botpress

What it is for

Botpress is an agent studio plus helpdesk: build an agent in Studio (or the ADK), connect channels, and hand hard tickets to a human inbox. Use it when the job is a support agent that takes actions and can escalate, not when you only need a one-page FAQ widget.

What makes it unique: the cover is the official botpress/botpress GitHub file list — integrations/, packages/, plugins/, MIT in the About pane — not a marketing orb.

Key features

• Studio — visual agent builder: instructions, workflows, and a conversation emulator (Quickstart; Studio tutorial). One canvas you author, not a generate.
• Tables — structured rows (inventory, customers) the agent can read and write (Platform Walkthrough “Botpress Tables”). A store, not a prompt.
• Hub channels — Webchat, WhatsApp, Slack, Teams, and OAuth tools (HubSpot, Stripe, Drive) from one agent (Quickstart deploy). A pipe, not a studio node.
• Desk / inbox — human handoff with the transcript and what the agent already tried (botpress.com “Hot handoff”). People, not a bot turn.
• Help Center — a public knowledge base (custom domain on Plus+) so visitors self-serve before a conversation (pricing). A site, not a chat.

The TypeScript ADK and bp CLI are install / SDK. Conversations (and the $0.10 AI-usage grant per conversation) are the meter. Model names are SKU.

Who it's for

Best fit: support teams who will pay Plus so more than Free’s 100 conversations and 3 agents can run unlimited agents, whitelabel webchat, and live-chat support.

Pricing

Verified 2026-10-22 (Asia/Shanghai) from botpress.com/pricing. Cards we copied were Annual · Save 20%.

• Free — $0. 100 conversations (no top-ups or overages). 3 seats; 3 AI agents; Help Center; community support.
• Plus — $150/month billed annually. 250 conversations/month included; extra packs of 100 for $65 ($0.65/convo). $25 AI usage included. Unlimited agents; whitelabel webchat; Help Center custom domain; live-chat technical support.
• Team — $750/month billed annually. 1,500 conversations/month; packs of 100 for $50 ($0.50/convo). $150 AI usage included. Unlimited seats; teams, routing, RBAC; team analytics; realtime Studio collab.
• Custom — custom conversation volume. Dedicated support; uptime SLA; security review; voice channel.

A conversation is an exchange with at least two end-user messages in the billing month (FAQ). Voice: 3 minutes = 1 conversation. At 95% of quota, paid plans auto-add a 100-conversation pack. Free has no auto-recharge. Storage add-on on Plus/Team: $40/mo (100k table rows, 1 GB vector, 10 GB files).

Limitations / costs

• $150 / $750 are yearly-billed cards. Confirm monthly checkout if you do not want annual.
• Free is 100 conversations, hard-capped. Plus is the first pack/overage card.
• Studio + desk, not a no-code FAQ trainer. For a site-trained widget without Studio, see Chatbase.

Alternatives

• Chatbase — no-code source trainer when you do not need Studio/Tables.
• Chatwoot — MIT inbox + Captain AI when Botpress Cloud is not the job.
• Intercom Fin — helpdesk AI if you already pay Intercom seats.
