Yearly vs monthly vs Max

Pay yearly Pro if you already open Claude most weeks and can float $200. The public math is $200 vs $240.

Pay monthly Pro if this is a one-project trial or your company will not prepay. Cancel is the feature.

Pay Max only after Pro’s 5-hour window is the blocker — long Claude Code sessions, or you already buy Claude API credits. Max is not a seniority badge.

Open Claude vs ChatGPT if the real question is still “Claude or ChatGPT?” ChatGPT Plus is $20/month, monthly only on Help. ChatGPT has no $17 yearly card we can copy.

Claude Code on the same bill

Claude Code is on paid seats. The cover job is: point it at a repo, describe a change, review a diff. If you do not want that, do not buy Pro “for Code later” unless you also want the writer.

If the job is an editor window, compare Cursor vs Claude Code. Cursor Plus is $8 and Grok-only; Cursor Premium is $30 plus API list. Different product.

Best for / not for

Best for: writers and engineers who already use Claude weekly and want Code on the same seat.

Not for: occasional chat (stay Free); people who need a VS Code fork more than a Claude seat; anyone jumping to Max because the landing page said “5×.”

A boring way to choose

  1. Hit Free’s ceiling on a real week of work.
  2. Buy monthly Pro for 30 days.
  3. If you still open it in week three, switch the next invoice to yearly.
  4. If the 5-hour window dies mid-session on work you will repeat, price Max against extra API credits — not against a feeling.
