Transmit

What it is for

Transmit is a macOS dual-pane file-transfer desk: you Quick Connect SFTP to panic.com:22, browse /www/project, and keep it forever for US$45. Use it when the job is SFTP / S3 / cloud you start at a public $, not when you need ForkLift’s local dual-pane + sync first.

Soft-note: US$45 one-time (Transmit 5) + 7-day free trial — panic.com/transmit (“Keep it forever for only $45”). Requires macOS 13.0+. Distinct from ForkLift, Hazel, and Alfred.

What makes it unique: the cover is Panic’s official dual-pane + Quick Connect still (cabel@panic.com, protocol SFTP, port 22, remote path /www/project, selected ao_ramp.png) — not a wordmark. The SFTP form itself is ops of Quick Connect.

Key features

• Dual-pane browser — local list + remote inspector (cover still; product). One desk. Cover ao_ramp.png sits here.
• Quick Connect — Protocol SFTP / Address / Port 22 / Username / Key / Remote Path (cover). A form, not a $45 meter.
• Cloud connectors — Backblaze B2 / Box / Google Drive / Dropbox / Azure / OneDrive / S3 / FTP / WebDAV (product). A connector, not Get started.
• File Sync — local-to-local and remote-to-remote plus Panic Sync for servers (product). A sync, not Enterprise.
• Get Info sidebar — inspect items as you browse (product). An inspector, not a trial tile.
• Keys in-app — generate / manage keys without leaving Transmit (product). A key, not SSO.

Download / Buy are CTAs (not desks). US$45 stays in Pricing. There is no AI extra to drop.

Who it's for

Best fit: Mac developers / admins who will finish the 7-day trial then keep Transmit 5 at US$45 — not ForkLift Single US$19.95 first unless they want a local dual-pane + timed-update license, and not if they need Windows.

Pricing

Verified 2026-10-23 (Asia/Shanghai) from panic.com/transmit. Soft-note: USD as printed. One-time is a major-version product (Transmit 5).

• Trial — 7 days (full version; then it stops).
• Transmit 5 — US$45 one-time (“Keep it forever”).
• macOS 13.0+.
• The product is not OSS. We omit a GitHub CTA.

Limitations / costs

• macOS-only (13.0+). No Windows / Linux client.
• One-time license is a v5 product. The next major is a new buy, not a listed upgrade $ on the page we fetched. Do not invent the v6 $.
• A cloud/SFTP client, not ForkLift’s local dual-pane manager. For that see ForkLift.

Alternatives

• ForkLift — a dual-pane manager when you want Single US$19.95 (1yr updates) / US$34.95 (2yr), not Panic’s cloud connector list first.
• Hazel — folder automation when you want Hazel 6 US$42, not SFTP panes.
• Alfred — a launcher when you want Free / Powerpack £34, not a file-transfer client.
