Shottr

What it is for

Shottr is a macOS screenshot + annotation desk: you sample a pixel, open Color Format, pick OKLCH, and you can run it at $0. Use it when the job is a Mac capture you start at a public $, not when you need Kap’s MIT GIF export only.

Soft-note: purchase prints Free (download and use; nag after 30 days) + Basic $12 once (commercial license) + Friends Club $30 once. License validates online. Distinct from Kap, Screen Studio, and CleanShot X.

What makes it unique: the cover is Shottr’s official OKLCH color picker (Color Format, checked HEX #FFC200, circled OKLCH, Copy Average Color, annotation toolbar) from the 1.8.1 release still — not a wordmark. The OKLCH row itself is ops of the eyedropper.

Key features

• OKLCH color format — the circled menu row (cover still; release still). One desk. Cover OKLCH sits here.
• Eyedropper formats — HEX / CSS rgba / RGB / Android / UIColor / C# (cover). Formats, not a Basic tile.
• Annotation toolbar — select / pen / highlight / color well (cover; shottr.cc). Markup, not a $12 meter.
• Copy Average Color — select an area, press C (cover). An average, not Get Started.
• Scrolling capture — long pages (homepage). A scroll, not Friends Club.
• OCR / QR — copy text or scan a code from a still (homepage). OCR, not Enterprise.

Download / Buy for $12 are CTAs (not desks). Free / Basic / Friends tiles stay in Pricing. Any “AI” OCR marketing stays off Key features as an AI extra.

Who it's for

Best fit: Mac makers who will stay on Free at $0 (nag after 30 days) while they copy a first OKLCH, then Basic at $12 once when they need a commercial license — not Friends Club $30 first unless they want experimental builds.

Pricing

Verified 2026-10-23 (Asia/Shanghai) from shottr.cc/purchase.html. Soft-note: a commented Black Friday line still mentions $9; the live button prints Buy for $12.

• Free — $0. “You can download and use Shottr for free. After 30 days it will start asking you to consider upgrading.”
• Basic — $12 one-time. “License required for commercial use.” One user, up to five Macs. Not a subscription.
• Friends Club — $30 one-time. Experimental features + better support. Cannot upgrade Basic → Friends.
• macOS — 10.15+. License retrieval is email-based; the app validates the license online.

Confirm checkout (FastSpring). Older “name-your-price / enter $0” copy is not what the 2026-10-23 purchase page printed — Free $0 is the printed $0 path.

Limitations / costs

• Commercial use needs Basic $12. Free is for personal use plus a nag after 30 days.
• One license is one user / five Macs. Buy more from the FastSpring cart.
• A Mac annotator, not Kap’s MIT GIF export. For that recorder see Kap.
• The product is not OSS. We omit a GitHub CTA rather than invent a product repo.

Alternatives

• Kap — a MIT Mac recorder when you want Free $0 GIF/MP4 export, not Shottr’s OKLCH row.
• Screen Studio — a Mac recorder when you want Yearly $9/mo auto zooms, not a $12 once annotator.
• CleanShot X — a History desk when you want Basic $35 once, not Shottr’s Free $0 nag.
