Ory

What it is for

Ory is an identity-and-access stack: you open a Kratos login, and open source is $0 (you run the binaries); Ory Network Production is $770/year and Growth is $9,350/year. Use it when the job is login + OAuth + permissions you start on OSS or a printed Network $, not when you need a $20 chat seat.

What makes it unique: the cover is the official Ory Kratos login (SecureApp, E-Mail / Password, Sign in, Continue with GitHub) from the browser still — not a pricing card. The form itself is ops of Identities. Network bills aDAU / M2M tokens / permission checks after an included monthly credit.

Key features

• Identities — a user you store in Ory Kratos (login still; docs). One person. Cover Sign in / GitHub / Register are ops of this. Recovery and verification flows sit here.
• Sessions — a signed-in session (cookie or JWT) Kratos issues (pricing Customizable Session Duration / JWT Sessions). A session, not a user. Privileged sessions sit here.
• OAuth2 / OIDC — a Hydra provider that issues tokens for apps (pricing OAuth2 & OIDC Provider). A client, not a session. Client-credentials, auth-code, and token rotation print on Production+.
• Permissions — a Keto check you meter (pricing Price per Permission Check). A check, not a login. Production $0.000090 / check / month after credit; Growth $0.000085.
• Self-host / Ory Network — the Apache/OSS binaries you run vs the hosted Network (pricing Looking for open source?; GitHub). A control plane, not an identity. Production includes 1 production + 3 staging environments; Growth 2 + 5.

SDKs, Ory Elements, and the CLI are install. aDAU and M2M tokens are meters, not desks. Oathkeeper (proxy) is edge of this stack, not a sixth listing.

Who it's for

Best fit: platform teams who will run Kratos/Hydra/Keto at $0 on their own cluster, or buy Ory Network Production at $770/year ($21 included monthly credit) when they want a hosted identity cloud instead of Clerk-shaped components.

Pricing

Verified 2026-10-23 (Asia/Shanghai) from ory.sh/pricing. Network tiles print $770 / year (Production) and $9,350 / year (Growth). Enterprise is Contact us. A Developer column exists on the compare table with No included credit — do not invent a Developer dollar.

• Open Source (self-host) — $0 software. You run Kratos / Hydra / Keto / Oathkeeper. Hosting is your bill.
• Ory Network Production — $770/year. 1 production + 3 staging environments. Included monthly credit $21.00. Then $0.14 / aDAU / month, $0.007 / M2M token / month, $0.000090 / permission check / month.
• Ory Network Growth — $9,350/year. 2 production + 5 staging. Included monthly credit $255.00. Then $0.12 / aDAU / month, $0.006 / token / month, $0.000085 / check / month.
• Enterprise / Ory Enterprise License — Contact us. Multi-tenant production environments and legacy integrations print here. Do not invent an Enterprise dollar.

Confirm checkout; taxes follow your location.

Limitations / costs

• $770 is yearly Network, not a $0 Cloud. OSS is the free path; you operate it.
• Usage meters sit under the yearly tile (aDAU / tokens / checks) after the included credit.
• An identity stack, not a Flow canvas. For a visual sign-in graph see Descope. For prebuilt Sign-in components see Clerk.

Alternatives

• Clerk — hosted Sign-in components when you want MRU billing and prebuilt UI, not Kratos + Hydra binaries.
• Descope — visual auth Flows when you will draw Sign Up or In instead of running Ory.
• Logto — OSS OIDC when you want a smaller self-host identity than the full Ory suite.
