Descope

What it is for

Descope is a hosted visual-auth-flow desk: you open a Flow, and Free Forever is $0 (7,500 MAUs, 10 monthly active tenants, 3 SSO connections, no Descope watermark). Use it when the job is sign-in journeys you draw at $0, not when you need a $20 chat seat.

What makes it unique: the cover is the official Descope Flow canvas (Sign Up or In, Welcome Screen, magic-link / OAuth actions, Is new user condition) from the Flows still — not a pricing card. The graph itself is ops of Flows. Descope bills MAUs / tenants / SSO, not seats.

Key features

• Flows — a drag-drop sign-up / sign-in graph (Flows still; docs). One journey. Cover nodes (Welcome Screen, magic link, OAuth, Is new user) and Screen / Action / Connector / Condition / Flow palettes are ops of this. MFA, passkeys, and connectors are options of a Flow, not extra desks.
• Users — a monthly active identity Descope stores (pricing MAUs). A person, not a flow. Free 7,500 MAUs; Pro starts at 10,000. Test users: Free 5, Pro 100.
• Tenants — a customer org you isolate (pricing Monthly active tenants). A box, not a user. Free 10; Pro 35.
• SSO connections — an enterprise login you attach to a tenant (pricing SSO). A connection, not a flow. Free 3; Pro 5. Self-service SSO setup prints on Pro.
• Federated apps — an OIDC/SAML app you expose (pricing Federated app). An app, not an SSO connection. Free 1 OIDC; Pro 2 SAML/OIDC.

M2M exchanges, consents (MACs), and tokens (MATKs) are meters on those cards — not a sixth desk. Admin widgets and session management are ops of Users / Flows. Custom domain and SOC 2 reports print on Pro.

Who it's for

Best fit: SaaS teams who will stay on Free Forever at $0 (7,500 MAUs, 10 tenants, 3 SSO, no watermark) while they ship a first Sign Up or In Flow, then buy Pro at $249/month billed annually when they need a custom domain and 10,000 MAUs.

Pricing

Verified 2026-10-23 (Asia/Shanghai) from descope.com/pricing. Tiles print Free Forever $0 / Pro starts at $249 /mo / Growth starts at $799 /mo. Pro and Growth say billed annually.

• Enterprise / chat-with-sales — custom. Do not invent an Enterprise dollar.

Confirm checkout; taxes follow your location.

Limitations / costs

• Pro $249 is billed annually on the page we fetched, not a cancel-anytime monthly tile.
• Free has hard ceilings (7,500 MAUs / 10 tenants / 3 SSO). The page says upgrade is required — no silent overage.
• Flows look similar on every plan. Custom domain and SOC 2 are Pro.
• An auth-flow desk, not a component library you drop in. For Clerk’s Sign-in component see Clerk. For SuperTokens’ $0 core see SuperTokens.

Alternatives

• Clerk — hosted Sign-in components when you want MRU billing and prebuilt UI, not a Flow canvas.
• FusionAuth — downloadable auth when you want a Community / paid ladder you run, not a Flow canvas.
• Logto — OSS OIDC when you will self-host identity instead of buying Descope MAUs.
