What it is for

SuperTokens is an open-source auth desk: you sign a user in, store a session, and Cloud is $0.02/MAU after 5,000 free MAUs (self-host of the OSS core is $0 with no MAU cap). Use it when the job is sessions you start at $0 / 5k MAU, not when you need a $20 chat seat.

What makes it unique: the cover is the official SuperTokens User management table (email, auth method, time joined) from the GitHub still — not a pricing card. The table itself is ops of Users.

• Authentication — email/password, social, and passwordless sign-in (pricing Authentication). One login. Methods are options on this. The SDK is install.
• Sessions — a refreshable session the SDK keeps (pricing Core Features). A token, not a sign-in form. Logout and rotation sit here.

MAUs are the Cloud meter ($0.02 each after 5k). Multi-factor and enterprise SSO sit on paid add-ons — confirm the live row; do not invent those dollars.

• Self-hosted OSS — $0. “Free and open source (No free MAUs count limit).” You run the core.
• Cloud — $0.02/MAU after the first 5,000 MAUs free. A unique logged-in user per month (including new signups). Printed minimum: $100/month once you are on the paid band (example: 1–4,999 MAUs = $100/month on the paid example row; 5,000 MAUs with linking = ($0.02 + $0.005) × 5,000 = $125).
• Dashboard users — 3 free. Extra $20/user/month.
• Account linking — $0.005/MAU (add-on).
• Confirm other add-on rows on the live page — do not invent MFA / SSO dollars.

Limitations / costs

• Cloud’s printed minimum is $100/month once you leave the 5k free example — not $0.02 × MAU from the first user on a paid invoice.
• A session desk, not an IdP you give to every SaaS app. For a full IdP see authentik or Zitadel.
