What it is for

Hatchet is a durable task queue you attach workers to: a task is one execution, the first million runs each month are free, then you pay $30 per extra million. Use it when the job is tasks and events metered in runs, not when you need a $20 chat seat.

Key features

• Tasks / workflow runs — one execution of a task; a child task counts as a second run (pricing; docs). One job. Retries of the same task do not bill again. Failed runs do count. The CLI / SDK is install.
• Events — payloads you push that start a workflow or satisfy a wait (pricing Events). A trigger, not a run. 1M events/mo included, then $5/million.
• Workers — processes you run that connect to Hatchet and take slots (pricing Workers). A process, not a task. Pay-as-you-go includes 100 connected workers / 10,000 slots.
• Cron + scheduled runs — cron expressions and one-time future starts so a workflow fires without your API (pricing Cron / Scheduled). A clock, not an event you pushed. Pay-as-you-go: 1,000 crons, 1M scheduled-at-once.
• Tenants — isolated environments (dev / staging / prod) with their own workers and API keys (pricing Tenants). A wall, not a workflow. Pay-as-you-go includes 10.

The Activity table is ops for the same run. Webhooks are a door that produces an event. Seats over 50 are $10/user. Runs and events are the meter. Self-host / BYOC is a Custom SKU.

• OSS / self-host — the engine can run on your metal; Custom is the supported self-host / hybrid SKU.

Limitations / costs

• No-card is 2,000 runs/day. The free million is the card-on-file envelope.
• Failed runs bill. Retries of the same run do not.
