What it is for

Axiom is an event + metrics query desk: you load events into a dataset, ask them in APL, and optionally alert or chart the same query. Use it when the job is logs you start on Personal at $0 (no card) or Cloud at $25 + usage, not when you need a $20 chat seat.

What makes it unique: the cover is the official Axiom Query builder (dataset, where, summarize, results table) from the docs — not a pricing card. The builder itself is ops of datasets.

Key features

• Datasets — event stores you ingest logs, traces, and events into (docs; pricing). One table. The Query builder (cover) is ops of this. APL is how you ask.
• Metrics — time series you query next to events (example metrics query; pricing ingest / query). A gauge, not a log line. Host or app samples sit here.
• Monitors — a saved query that pages you when it matches (pricing). An alert, not a one-off Query run. Notifiers are this surface.
• Stream — live tail of a dataset as rows arrive. A follow, not a historical summarize. Dashboards that pin a query are ops of Datasets / Metrics.
• AI Engineering — model / app spans you keep in Axiom and ask with the same APL (docs AI Engineering). A prompt trace, not a host CPU sample.

Ingest (data-loading compute), query GB-hours, and compressed storage are the meters. SSO / RBAC / audit / directory-sync are SKU add-ons. The CLI and ingest tokens are install.

Who it's for

Best fit: app / platform teams who will stay on Personal $0 (500 GB load, 10 GB-hours query, 25 GB store, 30-day retention, no card) while they ingest a first dataset, then buy Cloud at $25/month when they want the Always Free 1 TB / 100 GB-hours / 100 GB envelope and configurable retention.

Verified 2026-10-22 (Asia/Shanghai) from axiom.co/pricing. Every plan has an Always Free allowance; you pay usage above it. Cloud adds a platform fee.

• Personal — $0/month, permanent, no card. 500 GB/mo data-loading compute. 10 GB-hours/mo query compute. 25 GB storage. 30-day retention.
• Cloud — $25/month platform fee + usage. Always Free included: 1 TB data-loading compute / 100 GB-hours query / 100 GB storage. Configurable retention. Recommended for teams.
• Data loading (ingest) — $0.12/GB for 0–99,999 GB, then $0.10 / $0.085 / $0.07 / $0.06 as volume grows (100k / 500k / 1M / 5M+ GB).
• Query compute — $0.20/GB-hour for 0–499 GB-hours, then $0.16 / $0.12 / $0.10 / $0.08. Pay-as-you-go compute credits are $1 each (volume discounts print on the page).
• Storage — default (hot) $0.03/GB; 30+ days $0.0163; 90+ days $0.00522.

Limitations / costs

• Personal is 25 GB stored and 30-day retention. Cloud’s $25 fee is the door to configurable retention and the 1 TB / 100 GB-hour envelope.
• Query GB-hours are a second bill. A cheap ingest month can still cost if you scan wide.
• An event desk, not an OTel APM you self-host. For Community $0 traces/logs/metrics see SigNoz. For prompt/trace experiments see Langfuse.

Alternatives

• SigNoz — OpenTelemetry APM + logs + metrics you can self-host at $0 when you do not want APL.
• Langfuse — traces and prompt experiments when the “event” is a model call.
• Opik — LLM evaluation + traces when you will not run an event lake.
