TextExpander - AI Tools Nav

What it is for

TextExpander is a snippet-expansion desk: you type ;csupport in a Zendesk ticket, fill Dear Andrew / the reply, and Free stays $0 for 5 active snippets. Use it when the job is an abbreviation you start at a public $, not when you need Alfred’s Free launcher only.

Soft-note: Free $0 (5 active snippets; 1 swap / 2 weeks); Pro US$6/user/mo monthly or US$5/user/mo billed annually ($60/yr); Business US$12/user/mo monthly or US$10/user/mo billed annually ($120/yr); 30-day paid preview. Distinct from Alfred, Raycast, and Karabiner-Elements.

What makes it unique: the cover is TextExpander’s official snippet fill-in (Zendesk Ticket #1, abbreviation ;csupport, dialog TextExpander - ;csupport / Dear Andrew / Sophia Montgomery) from textexpander.com/wp-content/uploads/how-it-works-mac.png — not a wordmark. The ;csupport chip itself is ops of the snippet.

Key features

Abbreviation expand — ;csupport becomes the reply (cover still; product). One desk. Cover ;csupport sits here.
Fill-in fields — Dear Andrew + OK / Cancel on the cover (cover; free plan). A field, not a Pro tile.
Active snippets — 5 on Free; unlimited on Pro/Business (pricing). A cap, not a $6 meter (the $ stays in Pricing).
Groups — organize the library (pricing; free plan). A group, not Get started.
Cross-device library — Mac / Windows / Chrome / iOS / Android (free plan). A library, not Enterprise.
Snippet swap (Free) — 1 swap every 2 weeks (pricing). A swap, not SSO.

Download / Upgrade are CTAs (not desks). Free / Pro / Business $ stay in Pricing. AI extras stay out of Key features.

Who it's for

Best fit: people who will stay on Free while they keep 5 active snippets (and one ;csupport fill-in) — then Pro at US$6/user/mo (or US$5 billed yearly) when they want unlimited active snippets, not Alfred Powerpack £34 first unless they want a launcher, and not if they refuse Accessibility / keyboard permissions (expansion needs them).

Pricing

Verified 2026-10-23 (Asia/Shanghai) from textexpander.com/pricing (Free $0 forever; Active Snippets 5 / swap 1 every 2 weeks; FAQ: Pro $5/user/mo billed annually = $60/yr; Business $10/user/mo billed annually = $120/yr; “Monthly billing is also available; annual billing gives you two months free” → monthly US$6 / US$12) plus free plan and “30-day preview of paid features”. Soft-note: USD; Paddle; taxes may apply.

Free — $0. 5 active snippets; unlimited saved; 1 swap / 2 weeks; up to 5 team members / 3 teams. No credit card.
Pro — US$6/user/mo monthly, or US$5/user/mo billed annually ($60/yr). Unlimited active snippets.
Business — US$12/user/mo monthly, or US$10/user/mo billed annually ($120/yr). Unlimited users; guest sharing; Google SSO.
Enterprise — contact. Do not invent an Enterprise $.
Preview — 30 days of paid features; then the account returns to Free (5 stay active).

Limitations / costs

Free is hard-capped at 5 active snippets (1 swap / 2 weeks). Autocorrect snippets do not count (free-plan page).
Needs Accessibility / keyboard permissions to expand in other apps.
A snippet expander, not Alfred’s Free launcher. For that bar see Alfred.
The product is not OSS. We omit a GitHub CTA rather than invent a product repo.

Alternatives

Alfred — a launcher + snippets/workflows when you want Free £0 / Powerpack £34, not ;csupport fill-ins.
Raycast — a launcher + File Search when you want Free $0 / Pro $10, not a dedicated snippet library.
Karabiner-Elements — a keyboard remapper when you want Free (Unlicense), not snippet expansion.
