Sourcegraph Cody is an enterprise coding assistant that chats against your indexed codebase, fetches context, and can Execute a suggested command in the IDE. Use this page when the job is Cody — not Amp, which is now a separate company.

Cody Free, Cody Pro, and Cody-on-Enterprise-Starter ended July 23, 2025. Cody remains a Sourcegraph Enterprise feature. Amp is the consumer/team agent with its own Hobby Free / Individual $20 cards.

What makes it unique: the cover is Sourcegraph’s official Cody Chat still — prompt, Context, model line, and Copy / Execute on a real git commit --amend — not the VS Code marketplace tile.

Key features

• Autocomplete — single- and multi-line ghost text from surrounding code; Tab / Enter to accept (Autocomplete).
• Repo-aware chat — ask in the Cody Chat panel; @ files, symbols, or repos so answers use the indexed tree (cover; Chat).
• Smart Apply — click Apply on a chat code suggestion; Cody finds the spot in the open file and shows a reviewable diff (Chat).
• Execute from the thread — click Execute to run a suggested shell command in the IDE terminal (cover; Chat).
• Edit Code / Quick Edit — select code, describe the change (Alt+K / Cody → Edit Code), then accept, retry, or undo (Edit Modes).
• Explain Code — select code and run Cody → Explain Code (or the Commands menu) for a walkthrough of that span (Cody Tutorial).

Who it's for

Best fit: companies already on Sourcegraph Enterprise that want chat + Execute against the same index.

Poor fit: individual developers — use Amp (Hobby Free / Individual $20) or Continue.

Pricing

Verified 2026-10-22 (Asia/Shanghai) from sourcegraph.com/pricing and the Cody plan-change post. There is no Cody Free or Cody Pro card.

• Sourcegraph Enterprise — starts at $16,000 / year (minimum annual contract). Includes pooled credits for AI features; scales with team size. Final per-seat $ is sales-quoted (Pricing).
• Cody Free / Pro — gone as of 2025-07-23. Do not list $9 / $19 Cody seats.
• Amp (separate company) — Hobby Free; Individual $20/mo (Amp pricing). Not a Cody SKU.

Limitations / costs

• No self-serve Cody. The $16K floor is a platform contract, not a $20 IDE seat.
• Amp is not Cody. Same founders’ new company; different checkout.
• Context can be empty (cover: “Context — none fetched”) until the index answers.
• Execute still runs on your machine. Review the command before you hit it.

• Amp — the consumer/team agent Sourcegraph pointed Cody Free/Pro users to (Hobby Free; Individual $20).
• Continue — OSS IDE chat if you want BYOK without an Enterprise contract.
• Cursor — hosted IDE agent if you want a commercial editor, not Sourcegraph search.
