Snowflake

What it is for

Snowflake is a hosted Snowsight Home desk: you click Query data, and the docs worked example bills compute at $2 / credit. Use it when the job is a warehouse query you bill in credits, not when you need a $20 chat seat.

What makes it unique: the cover is Snowflake’s official Snowsight Home (Home search, Quick actions Query data / Create warehouse / Create user / Upload local files, Recently viewed) from the homepage still — not a pricing card. The chrome itself is ops of Home. Snowflake bills credits + storage, not a chat seat.

Key features

• Snowsight Home — search + Quick actions + Recently viewed (cover still; docs). One desk. Cover Query data and the numbered callouts sit here.
• Worksheets / Workspaces — SQL or Python you run (legacy worksheets deprecate 2026-06-22) (docs). A worksheet, not Home. Credits burn here.
• Create warehouse — Quick action #3 on the cover (docs). A warehouse, not Home search.
• Compute credits — docs worked example $2 / credit (cost docs). The compute meter.
• Storage — docs worked example $23 / TB (cost docs). The storage meter.

The numbered overlays on the cover are official docs callouts (not a sixth desk). $2 / credit and $23 / TB are the meter. Enterprise / HIPAA editions are the extra meter, not a desk we fold into Home.

Who it's for

Best fit: data teams who will open Snowsight Home and run a first Query data worksheet, then size warehouses against the published $2 / credit worked example (4,464 credits = $8,928 compute on that page).

Pricing

Verified 2026-10-23 (Asia/Shanghai) from docs.snowflake.com cost overview. The official worked example prints $2/credit and $23/TB.

• Compute (docs example) — $2 / credit. 4,464 credits → $8,928.
• Storage (docs example) — $23 / TB. 65 TB → $1,495.
• Example total on that page — $10,423.

Confirm the rate card in your Snowflake account (edition / region / on-demand vs capacity). The marketing pricing host returned 403 to our fetch; we quote only the docs example. Taxes follow your location.

Limitations / costs

• Worksheets consume warehouse credits. A leftover running warehouse is a bill, not $0.
• A Snowsight Home desk, not MotherDuck’s hosted DuckDB. For MotherDuck see MotherDuck.

Alternatives

• MotherDuck — hosted DuckDB when you want MotherDuck’s public $, not Snowflake’s $2/credit Home.
• Turso — libSQL edge when you want Turso’s public $, not Snowsight Quick actions.
• Supabase — Postgres studio when you want Supabase’s Free / Pro, not $23/TB storage.
