Shortwave

What it is for

Shortwave is a hosted email agent: the official docs still (see the cover: Mark 7 threads as done? plus Discord / Notion / Slack thread titles and Mark done) is the inbox action dialog. Use it when the job is search and act on Gmail from one box, not when you need a general chat.

It is not open source. A 14-day free trial exists. Business is $30 / seat / month. Premier is $45 / seat / month.

What makes it unique: the cover is Shortwave’s own inbox dialog from The Shortwave AI Assistant — real thread titles, not the marketing hero.

Key features

• Inbox organize dialog — Mark 7 threads as done, with real thread titles (cover).
• 14-day free trial — no credit card on the homepage + pricing.
• Business — standard search history, more AI usage, 5-year AI search history, max 50 threads per AI search, 3 AI-powered filters.
• Premier — advanced intelligence, 2× AI usage, unlimited AI search history, max 100 threads, 10 filters.
• iOS / Android / Mac / Windows — named under the homepage CTA.

Who it's for

Best fit: people who will reconnect Gmail and pay $30/seat after the trial.

Poor fit: people who want a general assistant (ChatGPT) or a notes AI (Notion AI).

Limitations / costs

• $30 / $45 are Business seats. Individual may differ; a second printed table is not on the page we fetched.
• Email must be connected. The composer is the teaser; Gmail OAuth is the product.
• AI usage is metered (history length, threads per search, filter count).
• Not a general chat. For that, see ChatGPT.

Alternatives

• ChatGPT — general assistant; Plus $20/month on Help.
• Notion AI — writing/Q&A inside Notion; AI $10 per 1,000 credits.
• Otter.ai — meeting notes, not inbox search.
