Rectangle

What it is for

Rectangle is a macOS window-snapping desk: you open Snap Areas, enable Snap windows by dragging, and the OSS app is $0. Use it when the job is a snap you start at a public $, not when you need Raycast’s window-management extension only.

Soft-note: Free OSS (macOS 14+) at github.com/rxhanson/Rectangle + Rectangle Pro paid (10-day trial; one-time Paddle license — exact $ is not in the static HTML we fetched). Distinct from Raycast and CleanShot X (soft adjacent: a Mac utility, not a snap clone). Magnet is not in this catalog — we do not link a missing slug.

What makes it unique: the cover is Rectangle’s official Snap Areas preferences (Snap windows by dragging on, Restore window size when unsnapped on, targets Top Left / Maximize / Top Right / thirds) from the homepage snap-area still — not the app icon. The Top Left chip itself is ops of Snap Areas.

Key features

• Snap Areas prefs — Shortcuts / Snap Areas / Behavior / App Settings (cover still; rectangleapp.com). One desk. Cover Top Left sits here.
• Snap windows by dragging — the first toggle (cover). Drag-snap, not a Pro tile.
• Restore window size when unsnapped — second toggle (cover). Restore, not a $ meter.
• Corner + thirds targets — Top Left / Maximize / thirds, drag toward… (cover). Targets, not Get Pro.
• Keyboard shortcuts — the Shortcuts tab (homepage). Shortcuts, not Enterprise.
• Rectangle Pro throw — one combo → 16 sizes (pro). A Pro desk, not the free OSS default.

Download / Purchase are CTAs (not desks). Free / Pro tiles stay in Pricing. There is no AI extra to drop.

Who it's for

Best fit: Mac users on macOS 14+ who will stay on Free OSS at $0 while they snap a first Top Left, then Pro if they want the window throw — not Pro first unless they need custom snap targets and iCloud sync.

Pricing

Verified 2026-10-23 (Asia/Shanghai) from rectangleapp.com and rectangleapp.com/pro.

• Rectangle (OSS) — $0. MIT-style OSS at rxhanson/Rectangle. macOS 14+.
• Rectangle Pro — 10-day free trial. “Purchase for …” — the $ is client-rendered (Paddle). Static HTML we fetched on 2026-10-23 does not print a dollar amount. Contemporaneous third-party reads often cite about $9.99 one-time / 3 devices. Confirm the Paddle checkout; do not treat $9.99 as a first-party card.
• Not a subscription on the copy we fetched.

Limitations / costs

• Free Rectangle needs macOS 14+. Older Macs are not on this listing’s printed floor.
• Pro $ is not on the static pro page. Pay Paddle, not a guessed $9.99.
• A snap desk, not Raycast’s Free $0 launcher. For that launcher see Raycast.
• Magnet is out of catalog. We will not invent a /item/magnet link.

Alternatives

• Raycast — a launcher + window commands when you want Free $0 / Pro $10, not Rectangle’s Snap Areas Top Left.
• CleanShot X — a Mac capture desk when you want Basic $35 once (soft adjacent utility, not a snap clone).

Official tutorial

Official Ryan Hanson channel (canonical product handle; oEmbed author: Ryan Hanson). Video: Rectangle Pro: The Window Throw (Vo09H-ln7BQ). First-party Pro how-to; the Snap Areas still is the cover. That is the only first-party video we resolved on the channel — there is no separate Free-OSS getting-started embed. We searched @rectangleapp (200) and @rxhanson (404). We do not embed third-party “How To Snap Windows” videos.
