GrowthBook is an open-source feature-flag + experiment desk: you define a flag, ship it through an SDK, and optionally run the experiment SQL in your warehouse. Use it when the job is flags and A/B tests you start at $0 (1 project, no card), not when you need a $20 chat seat.

• Visual editor — point at a page and change copy or layout without a deploy (Visual Editor). A DOM edit, not a flag rule you wrote in code.
• Self-host — Apache-2.0 app you run yourself; Cloud is the hosted desk (pricing Self-hosted CDN / Cache Layer). A deploy, not a flag. The CDN / cache layer is how flags are delivered.

Seats, projects, and event/CDN overage are the meters. AI GrowthBook is SKU. The Features table (cover) is ops.

Limitations / costs

• Starter is 1 project and 1M events. Pro is $40/seat — a 6-person team is $240/month before overage.
• A flag is not an experiment. Turning a key on is free of the stats engine; publishing an A/B test is the second product.
• A flag/experiment desk, not a zap canvas. For click-together workflows see n8n. For prompt/trace experiments see Langfuse.

Alternatives

• Langfuse — traces and prompt experiments when the “flag” is a model call, not a product key.
• n8n — a visual workflow canvas when you will not embed a flag SDK.
