What it is for

fal is a serverless model API + playground: the public Flux.dev page (see the cover: Playground / API / Examples, prompt, $0.025 per megapixel) is the same HTTP call you bill. Use it when the job is one model, one price row, not when you need a design canvas.

It is not open source as a product. Billing is pay-per-use. There is no ChatGPT-style seat on fal.ai/pricing.

What makes it unique: the cover is the live fal-ai/flux/dev playground (prompt + Sign in to run + printed megapixel rate), not a GPU marketing hero.

Pricing

Verified 2026-10-21 (Asia/Shanghai) from the live Flux.dev playground and fal.ai/pricing. Rates change; copy the row you will call.

• No public seat card. Pay per generation / GPU-second.
• FLUX.1 [dev] — $0.025 / megapixel (cover + image table; 1024×1024 = 1 MP).
• Other image examples on the same table — FLUX.1 [schnell] $0.003/MP; Flux 3 Image $0.048/MP; Nano Banana 2 $0.08/image.
• GPU examples — H100 $4.50/h list, $2.49/h “as low as”; billed per second.

Do not invent a Pro $20/month. The old “free credits” line is not a printed seat on the pages we copied.

Limitations / costs

• You are billed per output (or GPU-second), not a flat chat plan.
• Sign-in to run on the playground we captured.
• Megapixel rounding — the Flux.dev page says images bill by rounding up to the nearest megapixel.
• Not an editor. No Krea-style moodboard.

Alternatives

• Replicate — per-prediction playground; Flux Schnell $0.025/image on the public page.
• Together AI — serverless $/1M for open chat models.
• Krea — hosted studio with unit plans.
